About Us
My Kava Hut is a family run business on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. Both Herbie and Selena grew up on the Sunshine Coast in Caloundra where they met in high-school, later got married and set sail for Vanuatu to join Herbie's parents.
During Herbie's previous years, he spent a considerable amount of his childhood in Espirtu-Santo in Vanuatu. There he completed part of his schooling before moving back to the Sunshine coast. Herbie's love for Vanuatu grew and after meeting Selena, they decided to experience the South Pacific, and moved to Vanuatu together. There, they welcomed the first of their three children. During their time in Vanuatu, Herbie worked for his family's business while Selena enjoyed raising their young son and experiencing all of what Vanuatu had to offer. On the weekends, you would find them snorkelling, fishing, swimming at Champagne Beach or far up into the peak of the Island, meeting local Ni-Vanuatu families where they provided basic necessities and supplies.
Their favourite memories of their time in Vanuatu were supporting local Ni-Vanuatu families, the fresh organic produce, living from the land and being able to share the beauty of Vanuatu with friends and family.
Having family ties to the country dating back to 1913, Herbie was asked to play in the first ever Rugby League game for Vanuatu. Herbie played a total of 5 games and 2 test matches in Sydney Australia, Port Vila Vanuatu and at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium. Playing for Vanuatu's Rugby League was one of Herbie's greatest achievements and fondest memories.
Herbie and Selena's love for Vanuatu is what prompted My Kava Hut. Through this small business, they are able to share a little of what Vanuatu has to offer with the rest of Australia.
